MAS TA Vent Extruder – Melt Degassing For Higher Pellet Quality
Use a vent extruder when residual moisture, air or volatiles remain after upstream extrusion and filtration. Confirm the root cause and compare vacuum-system or process changes first.
The MAS TA Vent Extruder is a melt-fed single-screw extruder that degasses the melt after the twin-screw extruder and melt filter, then builds the pressure your pelletizer needs. Available as TA 100, TA 140 and TA 180.
When Is A Melt-Fed Vent Extruder The Right Step?
A vent extruder increases melt surface under controlled vacuum so residual air, moisture and suitable volatile components can leave the polymer melt before pelletising. The MAS TA also builds the pressure required by the downstream pelletiser.
Use it after homogeneous melting and suitable melt filtration when representative data show that residual degassing duty or pelletiser pressure load limits accepted output. It does not remove solid contamination and does not automatically replace material drying, filtration, vacuum-system correction or upstream process optimisation.

How TA Benefits Will Be Measured
Degassing
State incoming and residual moisture/volatile method, vacuum level, melt temperature, residence time and accepted pellet result.
Throughput
Report stable accepted kg/h at the same material, quality target and availability—not short peak rate.
Pressure Build-Up
Define upstream and downstream pressure, pelletiser requirement and how duty is redistributed.
Material Suitability
Validate polymer, formulation, viscosity, thermal sensitivity and volatile behaviour; a material list is not a guarantee.
Integration
Include vacuum generation, condensate/exhaust handling, controls, utilities, foundations, access and pelletising interfaces.
Maintenance
Publish inspection/cleaning intervals, wear criteria, vacuum service, labour, downtime and spares.
Where TA Venting Delivers Value – And Where It Does Not
TA may add value when filtered, homogeneous melt still contains a verified residual load of air, moisture or suitable volatiles, or when pelletiser pressure build-up restricts the upstream extrusion and filtration stages.
Before selecting TA, investigate feedstock moisture control, dryer performance, upstream venting, vacuum leaks/capacity, condensate and exhaust handling, melt temperature and residence time, filtration pressure, pelletiser condition and operating settings.
Choose the simplest option that reaches the same accepted throughput and pellet specification. TA is not the answer when solid contamination, incompatible material, inadequate drying, a faulty vacuum system or another upstream bottleneck is the primary cause.

Part Of The MAS Upgrade Line
Because of their high performance and efficiency gains, vent extruders are frequently integrated into large extrusion lines and form part of the MAS Upgrade Line, which is used to raise regranulate quality in existing plants. Combined with the MAS conical twin-screw extruder, CDF melt filtration and the MAS 110, the TA completes a line built for demanding recyclate specifications.
What Our Customers Say
The conical shape is very advantageous when melting the material, where with little shear and very short dwell time, the material is damaged as little as possible.
