Build The Right Film Recycling Route

What Must A Film Recycling System Solve?

A film route is not a fixed equipment sequence. It must solve the actual preparation, feeding, melt-processing and output requirements of the material.

How the Film Recycling Route Works

Assess The Film

Confirm polymer(s), film form, printing/multilayers, moisture, odour, contamination type/load, bulk density, variability and target PCR application.

➔

Compare Cleaning

Compare source separation, DRD dry cleaning, wet washing and combined preparation. Select by contaminant behaviour, water/resource constraints and residual-cleanliness target.

➔

Stabilise Feeding

Compare controlled/direct feeding, PreDensifier, cutter-compactor and other densification routes using representative film.

➔

Validate Melt Processing

Define extrusion, degassing, filtration and pelletising from melt behaviour, contaminant load and output requirements.

Which Film Streams Can MAS Evaluate?

The exact configuration depends on the input condition and output specification. Typical project materials include:

  • Typical project inputs include LDPE and LLDPE film; flexible and printed packaging; stretch film; PP raffia and woven bags; fibres, nonwovens and selected lightweight fractions.
  • For every stream, define polymer composition and compatibility; monolayer or multilayer structure; inks, coatings, labels, adhesives or barriers; loose and embedded contamination; moisture and odour; bulk density and feeding behaviour; batch variability; and target application.
  • Important limitation: Mixed or incompatible polymers, PVC, aluminium layers, heavy organics, persistent odour or embedded contamination may require additional sorting/washing, a different product target or rejection of part of the stream. Suitability must be tested.

Possible outputs include validated regranulate, film-grade pellets, re-compounds or application-specific PCR. “Film-grade,” closed-loop and food-contact claims require project-specific test methods, acceptance criteria and applicable approvals.

Compare Cleaning And Feed-Preparation Routes

DRD Dry Cleaner

Evaluate for suitable pre-shredded film with loose moisture, dust, sand, soil, fines or heavy particles. It may reduce water demand, but it does not replace every wet-washing duty or remove every embedded contaminant.

iQonicTwin PreDensifier

Evaluate when low bulk density causes unstable feeding and the material benefits from controlled densification before MAS extrusion.

Project Benefits To Validate

Preparation, feeding, extrusion, degassing, filtration and pelletising can be combined where required; not every project needs every stage.

Validate bulk-density improvement, feed consistency, throughput variation and stoppage reduction with the real film.

DRD may avoid or reduce washing for suitable loose contamination.

Validate residual contamination, pressure stability, degassing performance, pellet quality and application properties.

Size modules and controls around the tested material, operating window, target throughput and output acceptance criteria.

Performance and energy consumption depend on the material stream, contamination, moisture, throughput and final line configuration.

What Our Customers Say

The conical shape is very advantageous when melting the material, where with little shear and very short dwell time, the material is damaged as little as possible

Arjan Van Kempen, CEO – Cumapol (NL)

We always have to try to buy as good as possible to produce top quality regranulate. And we do that with the technology we bought from MAS.

Peter Daalder, CEO – Daly Plastics (NL)

Discuss Your Film Recycling Project

Send representative film and describe the material history, polymer/layer structure, print and additives, contamination, moisture, odour, bulk density, feeding behaviour, current process, required throughput and target PCR application. MAS will compare feasible cleaning, preparation, extrusion and filtration routes, identify limitations, define whether trials are required and agree the measurements and acceptance criteria for the next decision.
